SVIn+: Multi-Modal Framework for Robust Underwater State Estimation using 3D Sonar, Visual-Inertial, Water-Pressure, and DVL

Chinmay Burgul, Xiaoming Zhao, Yewei Huang, Michalis Chatzispyrou et al.

Abstract摘要

As expansion and scalability in underwater oper- ations becomes more important and challenging, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) become more relevant and the necessity for reliable autonomy more critical. A fundamental challenge in any autonomous underwater operation, from control to safe navigation and mapping, is state estimation; a notorious hard problem to address, especially in low visibility conditions. In this paper, we tackle this problem, by presenting SVIn+, a multi-sensor framework for robust state estimation of AUVs equipped with an IMU, cameras, a water-pressure sensor, a …

Revisiting Direct Control: A Field Evaluation of Sensor Fusion Efficacy in Teleoperating Full-Scale Autonomous Vehicles via Bird's Eye View

Stanis{\l}aw Kuczma, S{\l}awomir K. Tadeja, Micha{\l} R. Nowicki

Abstract摘要

In autonomous driving, robot teleoperation serves as a critical safety fallback mechanism, requiring operators to assume direct control in the event of system failure. While recent research has pivoted toward high-level supervisory control or simulation-based studies, these approaches often fail to capture the physical dynamics and sensory demands of driving a full-scale vehicle. To address this gap, we evaluated the impact of spatial data representation on operator performance using a real car-sized vehicle in a field experiment with $N = 18$ participants. We compared three visualization …

SCOPE: Scene-graph Construction Optimized by Plan Error-correction for Robot Long-term Planning Datasets

Chaoyue Li, Zeyu Gao, Yanfeng Lu, Fan Luo

Abstract摘要

Task and Motion Planning (TAMP) stands as a fundamental challenge in robotics, essential for enabling autonomous agents to execute complex, long-horizon tasks in diverse environments. While Large Language Models (LLMs) introduce a new paradigm for TAMP by leveraging extensive common sense, their inherent reasoning limitations hinder direct application, and fine-tuning strategies to enhance these capabilities are currently bottlenecked by the scarcity of high-quality datasets. Existing automated generation methods often suffer from homogeneity, limiting model generalization, and unsolvability, …

Joint-Angle Invariance of Jacobian-Based Performance Indices for Serial Robotic Manipulators

Yaohua Zhou, Mingdao Lin, Jiayu Song, Xixin Zhao et al.

Abstract摘要

This article investigates the joint-angle invariance (JAI) of Jacobian-based performance indices for serial robotic manipulators. We identify kinematic conditions under which representative performance indices, including manipulability, stiffness, and other Jacobian-derived indices, remain independent of the first and last joint angles. This property allows a systematic reduction in the effective configuration-space dimensionality, thereby simplifying the performance evaluation. The utility of JAI is demonstrated through two application scenarios: workspace performance map construction and …

Distance Field Driven Reinforcement Learning for Reactive and Robust Collision Avoidance

Taiga Ikeshima, Sheila Sutjipto, Lan Wu, Francisco J. Naranjo-Campos et al.

Abstract摘要

Robust and reactive collision avoidance remains a central challenge for deploying Reinforcement Learning (RL) policies on real robotic manipulators, particularly when transferring behaviours learned in simulation to the physical world. This paper presents an RL framework that integrates the Euclidean Distance Field (EDF) directly into the observation space, providing the agent with continuous geometric cues that support stable and responsive avoidance behaviours. By leveraging the rich spatial information encoded in the EDF, the method enables a streamlined reward formulation that achieves …

Bio-inspired Thrust-Assisted Trotting on a legged-Aerial Robot via Real-Time QP-MPC

Shreyansh Pitroda, Eric Sihite, Alireza Ramezani, Morteza Gharib

Abstract摘要

This paper presents the hardware implementation of a quadratic program-based controller on Harpy: thruster-assisted bipedal robot to perform thruster-assisted trotting. This is inspired by wing-assisted locomotion observed in birds such as the chukar partridge, which employ thrust vectoring to manipulate the ground reaction force. The proposed controller formulates the thruster-assisted spring-loaded inverted pendulum dynamics as a condensed QP-based model predictive control problem, enabling simultaneous regulation of ground contact force and active thrust vectoring at 500 Hz. A decoupled …

Energy-Score Stabilized Attentive Mixture-Density Policy: A Lightweight Approach to Multimodal Robot Motion

Sachiya Fujita, Hideyuki Ichiwara, Shigeki Sugano, Tetsuya Ogata

Abstract摘要

For practical motion generation, it is essential to handle multimodality (multiple actions can be correct for the same observation) while maintaining low inference cost and strong generalization from limited demonstrations. We introduce an attentive mixture-density policy trained with the Energy Score that represents future visuomotor trajectories as explicit probability distributions with a single forward pass. Concretely, we output Gaussian mixture parameters for joint commands (and optionally attention points) and optimize them with the Energy Score (computed as a sum of 1D CRPS under a …

Scalable, Intuitive, Mixed Reality-Based Semi-Autonomous Robotic Telemanipulation for the Execution of a Fine-Grained Bimanual Task

Shifei Duan, Zhe Wang, Francesco De Pace, Minas Liarokapis

Abstract摘要

Nowadays, robotic telemanipulation enables humans to control robots so as to execute tasks in a manner similar to how they perform them, and serves as an essential approach for collecting on-robot data for robot learning by human demonstrations. The quality of collected demonstrations directly impacts the performance of the learned policy. However, existing telemanipulation systems rely heavily on human operation, particularly for large-scale data collection. Collecting dozens or hundreds of demonstrations is a demanding process, as operators tend to fatigue quickly, especially during the …

SPEAR: Selective Preference Elicitation with Adaptive Rewards for VLM-Guided Robotic Manipulation

Zewen Wu, Ruizhe Liu, Pei Zhou, Feng Chen et al.

Abstract摘要

Recent Vision-Language Models (VLMs) enable automated preference labeling for robotic manipulation, yet their deployment remains impractical since each query incurs substantial inference cost, while VLMs frequently abstain on visually challenging comparisons. We propose SPEAR, a framework that transforms VLMs into efficient preference oracles via two synergistic mechanisms. First, we design distinguishability-aware query selection to reduce abstention rates by targeting only informative and distinguishable comparisons. Second, we deploy an adaptive reward transition that bootstraps …

MR-MPCC: Model Predictive Contouring Control for Robotic Manipulator Tracking under Moving Reference Frames

Chonghao Cheng, Tiancheng Li, Jonathan Woolfrey, Liang Zhao et al.

Abstract摘要

Maintaining small path-tracking errors under moving reference frames is essential for robotic manipulation tasks with tight execution tolerances, such as machining and surgical automation. Conventional time-indexed controllers, including tracking Model Predictive Control (MPC), rely on a fixed temporal correspondence with the reference trajectory and may therefore accumulate path-relative error under abrupt reference-frame motion or timing mismatch. This paper presents MR-MPCC, a Model Predictive Contouring Control (MPCC) framework for velocity-controlled robotic manipulators with 6-DoF …

Collective Learning for Unified Robotic Manipulation via Predictive Dynamics Adaptation

Shaocheng Liu, Yuan Meng, Zhenshan Bing, Alois Knoll

Abstract摘要

Learning a collective policy for state-based Cartesian manipulation across diverse robotic embodiments presents a fundamental challenge due to embodiment-dependent transition dynamics. Collective learning aggregates multi-robot experience to discover shared task structure, yet naive aggregation can average incompatible action modes when different embodiments realize the same Cartesian command through different transition behavior. This leads to strategy ambiguity and performance collapse on dynamically outlying embodiments. To address this, we propose PACE, a two-stage collective learning …

Improving Policy Learning from Delayed Interventions

Xiru Zhu, David Meger, Gregory Dudek

Abstract摘要

In this work, we explore the idea of expert intervention delays in human-supervised robotic systems for imitation learning system. Previous works in imitation learning have primarily examined the impact of suboptimal experts, where the expert policy makes mistakes, but assumed expert interventions occur immediately after errors are made. Although delayed expert intervention can be viewed as a form of noise that might improve policy robustness, our results show that learning from delayed expert interventions is overall less effective than learning from non-delayed expert interventions; delayed …

MSC: Multi-Stage Caster-aware Control Framework with Uncertainty-Aware NMPC and RL-based Execution Layer

Jinho Park, Jeongtae Lee, Jeonghyeok Lim, Keun Ha Choi et al.

Abstract摘要

Freely swiveling casters are widely adopted in industrial AMRs/SDVs for their mechanical simplicity and load capacity. However, caster misalignment during low-speed or high-curvature maneuvers induces strong contact nonlinearities, widening the planning-execution gap between commanded $(v, ω)$ and realized motion. Existing caster-aware strategies are highly sensitive to state-estimation reliability, causing unstable execution in uncertain transition regimes. To address this, we present Multi-Stage Caster-aware Control (MSC), a planning-execution integrated hierarchical framework featuring two …

All-St3R SLAM: Real-time RGB Dynamic SLAM with Pixel-wise Motion Masking

Yewon Kim, Paul Hongsuck Seo, Sang Chul Ahn

Abstract摘要

SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is a core technology in autonomous systems that enables them to estimate their own position and build a map of unknown environments simultaneously. SLAM systems in dynamic environments are of great practical importance. However, existing dynamic SLAM approaches still have several limitations like over-removal and high computational costs. To address these limitations, we propose a real-time RGB Dynamic SLAM framework that precisely removes moving objects at the pixel level without relying on predefined labels or segmentation models. Our system …
