Rendering-Free Event Frame Simulation for Fast Reinforcement Learning of Autonomous Robot Navigation

Dequan Ou, Austin Lopez, Quentin Missinne, Christophe De Wagter et al.

Abstract摘要

Event cameras offer low latency, high dynamic range, and milliwatt-level power consumption, making them ideal for agile robots such as tiny drones navigating through cluttered environments. However, existing simulators generally render photorealistic images before converting them into events, making large-scale reinforcement learning prohibitively slow. We propose an analytic event simulator that exploits what event cameras fundamentally measure - moving contrast edges - to synthesize event streams directly from scene geometry and ego-motion without visual rendering. Our simulator generates a …

KEPT: Conformal Keepouts Kept in Planning for Enclosed-Space Navigation in Degraded Sensing

Eric Minwoo Kim, Jong-Kook Kim

Abstract摘要

Autonomous vehicles in enclosed spaces such as tunnels and mines rely on range maps that smoke, dust and fog make inaccurate. Conformal prediction calibrates a keepout around the mapped walls that covers the true unsafe set at a chosen probability. Typically an unmodified planner treats the keepout as an inflated obstacle, and nothing ensures that the vehicle can stop before the keepout as it moves when sensing degrades. In narrow passages this margin and the planner's buffer close the route, and existing remedies recover reach by relaxing the coverage level. This paper conditions the …

Remember Where You Walk: Learning Spatial Memory for End-to-End Legged Robot Exploration

Leon Magnus, Nico Bohlinger, Jan Peters, Oleg Arenz

Abstract摘要

Humanoids and other legged robots operating in complex environments must remember information that leaves their field of view and only becomes relevant much later. Reinforcement learning policies address this using memory networks such as LSTMs that are trained end-to-end with the policy to memorize such task-relevant aspects. Yet, such architectures often fail to preserve sufficient information over long horizons. In this work, we propose a network architecture based on Hadamard memory that specifically targets robot navigation. Our Local Spatial Matrix Memory (LSMM) enables RL agents to …

MCP-Net: Real-Time Coronary Perception Network and Topological Analysis for Robotic Guidewire Navigation

Sahar Nasirihaghighi, Tianyuan Wang, Kenan Niu, Stefano Stramigioli

Abstract摘要

Coronary guidewire navigation during percutaneous coronary intervention requires continuous interpretation of vessel anatomy, guidewire position, and target stenosis under two-dimensional X-ray fluoroscopy. While existing approaches commonly address vessel segmentation or device localization as separate tasks, a robotic system requires a more structured perception of the coronary scene to support downstream navigation. In this work, we present a simulation-driven framework centered on a Multi-Task Coronary Perception Network (MCP-Net) for robotic guidewire navigation, integrating coronary …

Omni-IGN: Onboard Image-Goal Navigation for Drones with Omnidirectional Vision

Zichen Yan, Rui Huang, Shenao Wang, Yucong Wang et al.

Abstract摘要

Image-goal navigation (ImageNav) requires an agent to reach a location specified by a goal image in an unknown environment. For drones, this task demands exploration, goal- directed navigation, and collision avoidance under limited onboard computing resources. Existing aerial ImageNav methods are built on single-view observations, requiring additional rotation and exploration to search for goal-relevant cues outside the field of view. In this paper, we present Omni-IGN, a fully onboard ImageNav system that integrates quad-fisheye perception, an attention-based reinforcement learning (RL) …

Gradient flow of magnetic inclination and intensity as a GPS-free guidance mechanism

Zayed Herma, Philippe Cardin, Andr\'ea Vassilev

Abstract摘要

It is well established that some animals, such as sea turtles, sense the Earth's magnetic field and use it as a primary cue for long-distance navigation across the vast and featureless ocean. This remarkable ability has inspired the development of bio-inspired magnetic navigation (BIMN), which seeks to mimic these animals to develop robust and frugal navigation methods. BIMN exploits the Earth's magnetic field, sometimes described as ''Nature's GPS'', as a natural navigation infrastructure, providing a potential alternative to vulnerable satellite navigation systems. However, unlike …

Learning Side-by-Side Navigation for Personal Mobility Vehicles from Human Drivers

Luis Yoichi Morales, Florent Ferreri

Abstract摘要

This paper presents an approach to achieve side-by-side autonomous motion with a pair of personal mobility vehicles (PMVs). Given a global path, two PMVs plan cooperatively so as to hold a social formation that lets the passengers hold a conversation, while keeping the ride safe and smooth. Each vehicle runs its own sampling-based model-predictive planner; the planners exchange nothing but the odometry each vehicle could observe of the other, and the joint decision is expressed as a pair of utility matrices over pairs of candidate trajectories, resolved by a common rule. The behavioural …

On Shaky Ground: Characterising Non-Rigid Base Effects in Mobile Manipulation

Zongyuan Zhang, Christopher Lehnert, Will N. Browne, Jonathan M. Roberts

Abstract摘要

Mobile robot manipulators extend contact-task capability beyond the workspace of fixed robot installations, but their bases must also sustain the forces generated by the task. On lightweight platforms, base motion and support compliance can change the force and motion realised at the workpiece. How these non-rigid base effects manifest during sustained contact remains insufficiently characterised. This paper investigates non-rigid base effects in mobile robot manipulators through a sanding case study combining exploratory simulation with experiments on two lightweight, unactuated wheeled …

However, typically, the geometry is recovered by associating 2D pixels with 3D points, so a modular SLAM system absorbs tracking error into the map, leading to cascading degradation. To address these gaps, we present SG^2SLAM, which couples streaming spatial geometry with a ray-conditioned 3DGS kernel. Streaming spatial geometry replaces the per- frame …

ASPEN: Adaptive Semantic Reasoning via Command Persistence Prediction for Efficient Navigation VLAs

Vieri N. Akustia, Bin Hu

Abstract摘要

Navigation vision-language-action (VLA) policies repeatedly invoke costly semantic reasoning even when the next command remains unchanged. Command reuse can reduce computation but risks missing instruction-dependent turns or stops. We introduce ASPEN, an event-triggered scheduler based on command persistence prediction: estimating whether the frozen base policy would reissue its previous command. A lightweight multimodal predictor combines temporal observations, language instructions, execution history, and cached VLA confidence. At eligible command boundaries, sufficient predicted …

OmniBrain-0: A Unified Agentic Model for Embodied Intelligence

Xiaomi Embodied Intelligence Team, Yuechen Luo (University of Macau, Tsinghua University), Chong He (University of Macau et al.

Abstract摘要

General-purpose embodied intelligence requires robots to coordinate diverse skills over long horizons, track task progress, and recover from failures. Specialist policies alone do not ensure task-level reliability, while powerful multimodal agents rely on costly reasoning and external experience that compact models struggle to reproduce. We introduce OmniBrain-0, a lightweight unified embodied agent that coordinates manipulation and navigation through a shared high-level decision model, integrating task understanding, planning, progress tracking, and feedback-driven recovery. TrySee: Modular Perception-Enhanced VLM Grounding for Closed-Loop Robot Task Planning in Specialized Domains

Elias Hofele, Thomas Trapp, David Timmermann, Tristan Schnell et al.

Abstract摘要

Vision Language Models (VLMs) have shown impressive capabilities in high-level reasoning and task planning for robots. However, specialized domains remain a challenge for VLMs' image interpretation and grounding abilities. We introduce TrySee, a modular closed-loop robot task planning pipeline integrating general-purpose VLM reasoning with domain-specific perception and established robotics components. The system consists of an inherently reactive cyclic planning pipeline, augmented with domain-specific modular vision preprocessing, to provide online grounding. Finally, a dynamic …

FISRF: Flexible Instructional Scaffolding Reflection Framework for Robotics Task Planning with Large Language Model

Qingmiao Liang, Jiatao Zhang, Runxin Zou, Yufan Song et al.

Abstract摘要

Large Language Models (LLMs) are widely adopted for reflective error correction in task planning; however, existing approaches primarily rely on autonomous exploration, rendering them prone to accumulating erroneous experiences during early interactions with new environments. To address this limitation, we propose the Flexible Instructional Scaffolding Reflection Framework (FISRF), an agent--mentor architecture that estimates the robot's Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) in task planning and adaptively selects reflection strategies and mentor guidance, thereby facilitating the accumulation …

Preemptive Instruction Following with Resumption

Zerun Liu, Lechao Cheng, Yimin Liu, Shengeng Tang et al.

Abstract摘要

Long-horizon embodied navigation may be interrupted by a higher-priority instruction before the current task sequence is complete. The agent must finish its current atomic task, execute the inserted task, and resume the remaining sequence from the updated environment state, where its viewpoint and available navigation candidates may have changed. To evaluate this capability, we introduce PIFR benchmark, a novel task for runtime task preemption and resumption in embodied navigation. PIFR includes single, repeated, and nested interruption settings, with stage-specific metrics for inserted-task …

EmbodiedLab: Benchmarking Embodied Agents That Act to Know

Hongcheng Gao, Zelin Zheng, Alex Zhou, Jay Zhu et al.

Abstract摘要

Embodied agents are expected to accomplish real-world goals by deciding for themselves how and when to interact with their surroundings. For many such goals, changing the physical state of the world is the means rather than the end: the agent changes the state of a system through interaction, observes the feedback, and explores until it either achieves the goal itself (e.g., discovering physical laws) or learns what the goal requires; it acts to know. Manipulation benchmarks stop at acting to change, with the target state given; scientific discovery benchmarks evaluate knowing but replace …

Abstract摘要

Existing robot navigation methods primarily focus on isolated tasks, overlooking the need to accumulate knowledge and experience across repeated navigation episodes. Although recent lifelong navigation methods have explored cross-task knowledge accumulation, they mainly focus on scene knowledge while neglecting historical navigation experience and its connection to scene evidence, limiting the ability to reflect on past mistakes and improve future decisions. To address this limitation, this paper presents RetroNav, a training-free self-evolving navigation framework that integrates navigation, …

VISTA: Active Exploration for Self-Improvement in Embodied Agents

Zhang Zhang, Shengjun Zhang, Simin Huang, Min Chen et al.

Abstract摘要

Agentic embodied intelligence plays a foundational role in open-ended, dynamic physical environments. Rather than treating policy learning as an end-to-end mapping from instructions to actions, recent studies reveal that embodied systems depend not only on pre-trained foundation models, but also on harness. Prior approaches largely treat rollouts as static logs for post-hoc reflection, producing harness updates without autonomously testing and refining them through subsequent embodied interaction. To address this challenge, we propose VISTA, a meta-agent framework that transforms post-hoc …

Benchmarking Obstacle-Conditioned Safety in Household Robot Navigation

Hyunwoong Bae, Jisu Han, Jiyeon Choi, Dohoon Kim et al.

Abstract摘要

Safe household navigation requires robots to regulate clearance and speed according to what an obstacle is and how close it is, without unnecessary conservatism. Yet existing evaluations do not test whether semantic safety distinctions are reflected in continuous motion. To that end, we introduce OSMA-Bench, an Obstacle-Conditioned Safe Motion Adaptation Benchmark built on spatially matched scenario sets that differ only in obstacle type. We also propose the \emph{Semantic Sensitivity Index} (SSI), which measures whether clearance and distance-dependent speed and smoothness follow the caution …

Abstract摘要

Object goal navigation requires an embodied agent to locate and reach target objects in complex environments. Learning Interaction-Aware Path Corrections from Unlabeled Trajectories: A LiDAR-Based Sim-to-Real GNN Framework for Construction Robots

Yilong Chen, Yong K. Cho

Abstract摘要

Construction robots operating near workers require navigation that can anticipate human motion while remaining robust to dynamic and unstructured site conditions. However, existing social navigation methods depend on hand-crafted interaction rules, labeled demonstrations, or robot-specific control policies, limiting their scalability and transferability in construction environments. We propose a real-time, LiDAR-only framework that learns interaction-aware path corrections from unlabeled demonstrations. Constant-velocity extrapolation generates residual learning targets, while a GNN models …

Abstract摘要

This paper proposes a command-aligned sampling distribution that incorporates navigation commands directly into the exploration process to improve the efficiency of sampling-based motion planning for quadcopters in three-dimensional environments. Inspired by the Language-Aided Subset Sampling Motion Planner, this paper extends command-aware subset sampling to aerial systems. Subset sampling is generalized to command-aligned regions, enabling structured 3D exploration while preserving probabilistic completeness. One Scan is Enough: Demonstration-Free Adaptation for Language-Guided Navigation

Zhuoyuan Yu, Yuxing Long, Du Wang, Junyang Wang et al.

Abstract摘要

Deploying a language-guided navigation policy in a new building usually means watching it fail. Public-benchmark VLAs degrade scene by scene as layout, appearance, and language drift, and the standard fix of teleoperating fresh trajectories on site does not scale. We replace human demonstration with a single brief iPhone scan. Scan2Instruction compiles that scan into a complete training environment, automatically synthesizing executable navigation episodes with grounded instructions. PRPT-KS then adapts the policy through a closed-form Pareto utility read directly off the reconstructed scene, …

MOON: Learning When to Forget and How to Move On in Vision-and-Language Navigation

Jingmeng Zhou, Seson Sun, Binyao Xu, Lingming Zhang et al.

Abstract摘要

Recent vision-and-language navigation (VLN) policies act on their visual history, and an incorrect action can take them off the instructed route. Paired interventions on four VLN policies show that clearing the history doubles pooled success at the onset of a deviation but lowers it on route, while later in a deviation, removing only the off-route frames helps much less. After a deviation, the retained history keeps the policy from turning where a turn is needed, which we call behavioral inertia. We propose MOON, a framework that equips a frozen VLN policy with two lightweight modules, adding …

ReSight: Task-Driven Self-Improving Memory for Embodied Agents

Abstract摘要

We introduce ReSight, a task-driven self-improving memory system for embodied agents that expands the capabilities for processing and accessing historical observations as task demands arise. ReSight retains keyframes and their spatiotemporal associations, separating observation evidence from extensible derived fields so that stored observations can be reprocessed for new needs. An …

SCET-CBF: Speed-Calibrated Soft Guidance for One-Step Dynamic Navigation

Xiaoyu Han (University College London), Dongkun Han (The Chinese University of Hong Kong)

Abstract摘要

Control barrier functions (CBFs) support collision avoidance, yet dense dynamic encounters can leave a vehicle with no feasible command. Geometric refinements and soft constraints help preserve motion choices. Using these choices also requires accounting for the vehicle's changing turning response. For a steering-limited bicycle, braking can lower closing speed while slowing the lateral motion needed before an obstacle arrives. We propose SCET-CBF, a speed-calibrated soft guidance law for one-step dynamic navigation. A short lateral escape maneuver gives an allowable approach speed. Its speed …

Neuromorphic Decision Dynamics for Deadlock-free Safe Navigation in Congested Environments

Himani Sinhmar, Vaibhav Srivastava, Naomi Ehrich Leonard

Abstract摘要

Safe navigation in congested environments requires both collision avoidance and coordinated passage. We introduce neuromorphic decision dynamics (NDD), a decentralized, event-based controller, that provides navigation in congested spaces with guarantees on safety, liveness, robustness, and scalability. NDD makes safe-and-live deconfliction a controllable, locally tunable emergent property of local agent interactions, without requiring communication, preassigned priorities, models of neighbors' objectives or future actions, or estimates of group size or global network properties. By design, …

EKT-Router: Expert-Evidence Alignment for Embodied Vision-Language Models

Abstract摘要

Embodied vision-language models must answer questions from partial, evolving observations. Their success depends on both the reasoning capability selected and the evidence available to it. Expert routers adapt internal computation, while tool-augmented systems acquire external evidence; choosing these independently can leave a suitable expert without the evidence it needs. We introduce EKT-Router, a bounded framework that jointly selects a capability expert, optional knowledge, and perceptual tools. Natural-Language to Nav2: Operational Policies for Costmap-Based Navigation

Jiyeong Chae, Hyunkyo Seo, Heonjae Lee, Kyung-Joon Park

Abstract摘要

Autonomous mobile robots support material transport in warehouses and industrial facilities, where navigation must adapt to changing operating conditions. Sensor observations reveal physical obstacles, but do not by themselves specify temporary access rules, route preferences, or exceptions known to operators. This paper presents a natural-language policy interface that brings this knowledge into ROS 2 Nav2. A local large language model converts instructions into JSON policies specifying destinations, spatial constraints, and temporal or event conditions. Deterministic checks govern mission …

OWLS: Open-world Language-conditioned Speed Fields for Zero-Shot Rover Navigation

Abstract摘要

Semantics can provide a proxy for physical traversability. Terrain that looks like loose sand or a rock field is likely to have similar physical properties. Open-vocabulary vision-language models (VLMs) enable this physical reasoning over terrain outside any fixed label set. We present Open-world Language-conditioned Speed Fields (OWLS), which plans directly over the dense feature map of a VLM. HGWM: Hierarchical Graph-Guided World Model for Zero-Shot Object Navigation via Graph Matching

I-tak Ieong, Hao Tang

Abstract摘要

Zero-shot object navigation requires an embodied agent to choose where to search while retaining evidence from previous observations. HGWM couples an LLM-generated room-anchor prior with persistent spatial-semantic memory. A coarse stage assigns visual-semantic scores to candidate headings on a 0-10 scale; a fine stage measures symbolic compatibility between observed objects, room context, and the goal prior. Phase-dependent fusion combines these scores with an LLM direction recommendation before local action selection. On HM3D v0.1, the reported HGWM configuration achieves 62.6% success rate …

Abstract摘要

Traversability analysis in off-road settings remains a fundamental challenge for mobile robots. Key difficulties include constructing an accurate and expressive local map from multimodal sensor data, and using the map to design traversability rules that yield desirable navigation behavior. Importantly, this system must be resilient to the limited sensing regime brought about by complex environments and high speeds. In this paper, we present TravSUITE, a traversability system suitable for high-speed navigation in off-road environments. TravSUITE consists of two major components: 1) an …

What visual representation should a navigation policy act on? Navigation policies built on vision foundation models largely leave representation design to the encoders' pretraining objectives. We present RepresentNav, a navigation foundation model built on a self-constructed representation space: a visual representation constructed by the policy's own objectives from vision foundation models. RepresentNav builds this space with Representation Residuals, a compact three-layer transformer that attends over features spanning the full depth of multiple complementary vision foundation models, so …

A Sparse Topometric Graph for Scalable Cross-Session Indoor Navigation

Abstract摘要

A conventional embodied agent in an indoor environment builds a map by accumulating noisy real-world measurements and results from heavy inference to guide navigation. While the detailed measurements may differ due to scene changes or sensor settings, the unique topological structure of navigable passages or the connectivity between rooms may provide training-free guidance that complements local observations. We propose a sparse topometric graph as an efficient structural representation for robust indoor navigation, alleviating the need for fine-grained matching, which is computationally …

Multimodal Progress-Residual Fusion for Anticipating Navigation Retreat in Robotic Flexible Endoscopy

Chi Kit Ng, Tianchun Wu, Jiatan Sun, Yuming Sun et al.

Abstract摘要

Flexible robotic endoscopes provide access through tortuous anatomy, where friction, deformation, and wall interaction separate commanded insertion from useful distal progress. Operators interpret this mismatch and retreat to recover a navigable configuration. Recognizing the approach to that decision requires relating motor intent to distal response and the local visual scene. We introduce Multimodal Progress-Residual Fusion (MPRF), a causal model that anticipates operator retreat from commands, electromagnetic (EM) tracking, and endoscopic video. A nominal-progress model predicts the …

TRACE: Traversability-aware Reactive Navigation via VLM-driven Adaptive Constraints Estimation

Mario A. V. Saucedo, Midhun Edatharam Kunnath, Elias Small, Akash Patel et al.

Abstract摘要

This paper presents TRACE, a traversability-aware reactive navigation framework designed for the autonomous operation of ground robots in unstructured forest environments. Unlike traditional approaches, TRACE leverages VLM-based confidence maps from positive and negative natural-language prompt sets and combines them through evidential fusion to produce a dense traversability map that prioritizes the terrain based on signs of previously traversed paths. Traversability-annotated points are then extracted and used to derive the left and right boundaries of the traversable path via percentile …

ProTrav: Probabilistic Traversability with Elevation Uncertainty Propagation for Risk-aware Off-road Navigation

Chuanlin Zuo, Milo\v{s} Pr\'{a}gr, Arun Kumar Singh, Mohammad Loni et al.

Abstract摘要

Reliable traversability estimation is essential for autonomous navigation on unstructured terrain. State-of-the-art approaches typically evaluate traversability from deterministic terrain elevation, thereby overlooking spatial correlations in the terrain and failing to account for how elevation uncertainty propagates through nonlinear traversability mappings. We propose ProTrav, a probabilistic terrain representation that uses function-space sampling to generate spatially correlated terrain realizations and propagate elevation uncertainty to traversability cost. First, a Sparse Variational …

EBV-CAN: Vision--Language Grounding for Contact-Aided Endoscope Navigation

Chi Kit Ng, Shuchang Liu, Jinsong Lin, Yidong Zhang et al.

Abstract摘要

Flexible endoscopes exploit structural compliance to traverse narrow lumens, pipes, and cavities, where navigation involves distributed environmental contact. This compliance makes tip motion depend on the evolving support configuration. We present external bird's-eye-view contact-aided navigation (EBV-CAN), a vision-language policy that combines one initial global static bird's-eye image with evolving endoscopic observations and motor state. Three supervised semantic queries locate the tip, next waypoint, and instructed target on the cached global image; their residual representations …

PATH: Preference-Aware Traversability Estimation for Robotic Teleoperation in Off-Road Navigation

Xianghao Meng, Wenshuo Wang, Cheng Shao, Lewei Feng et al.

Abstract摘要

Traversability estimation is critical for ground vehicle teleoperation, yet existing methods often neglect the human operator's preferences for speed and risk tolerance. To address this gap, we propose PATH-Net, a Preference-Aware Traversability estimation Hierarchical Network that adaptively generates preference-conditioned traversability cost maps and speed profiles for off-road teleoperation. Our framework integrates visual and geometric bird's-eye-view features with short-term historical vehicle states through a multi-head shared-backbone architecture. Our PATH-Net infers traversability …

OASIS: Online Anchor-centric Scene Inference System for Open-Vocabulary Retrieval and Navigation in Dynamic Environments

Kaiyao Liao, Qingfeng Li, Chen Chen, Xiaoze Wu et al.

Abstract摘要

Reliable robotic mapping in dynamic real-world environments is essential for embodied intelligence and long-term autonomy. However, existing methods often involve a trade-off: lightweight online mapping is efficient but captures limited semantic context, while dense mapping provides richer semantics at higher computational cost and is more vulnerable to distractors. They also struggle to relocalize objects after scene changes. To address these challenges, we propose the Online Anchor-centric Scene Inference System (OASIS), a unified system for online mapping, complex open-vocabulary …

Know When to Escalate: Critic-Guided Adaptive Execution for Cloud-Local Embodied Agents

Wei Zhang, Lirong Xiang, Charles Fleming

Abstract摘要

Recent advances in foundation-model agents have enabled increasingly capable embodied systems for long-horizon planning and interaction. However, embodied agents require fast, closed-loop decisions as they continuously perceive and act on a changing environment. Deploying strong cloud agents leaves the platform idle for seconds between consecutive actions, while lightweight local models respond quickly but are more vulnerable to errors. Existing hierarchical architectures typically assign models fixed roles, whereas conventional model routers make stateless per-request decisions. We present …
