Multimodal Embodied Agents: A Unified Capability-centric Perspective from Computer-Use to Robot-Use

Yanzhe Chen, Ziyi Yang, Jifeng Zhu, Qiming Huang et al.

Abstract摘要

Multimodal agents (MMAs) sustain interaction through reasoning, memory, tools, and feedback, most visibly as computer-use agents, while robotic systems (RSs) couple sensing and actuation under physical dynamics. We define multimodal embodied agents (MMEAs) as goal-directed systems that couple multimodal task reasoning with physical action and revise decisions from the resulting feedback. This raises a central question: what changes when a multimodal agent moves from computer-use to robot-use? We introduce PAPAV, a unified capability-centric framework of five recurring functions: Perceive the …

From Reasoning to Action: Benchmarking Frontier AI Models on LIBERO-10 Robot Manipulation Tasks

May Espinola, Qifan Zhang, Yu Xiang

Abstract摘要

Recent advances in frontier AI models have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in visual understanding, reasoning, planning, and tool use, raising the possibility of using general-purpose AI models for robot manipulation without task-specific training. However, their manipulation capabilities have not been systematically evaluated on standardized robotics benchmarks. In this report, we present a unified closed-loop manipulation framework for evaluating frontier AI models on the LIBERO-10 benchmark. Our framework enables models to control a robot directly through visual observations, robot …

TARSphere: A Robot-Oriented Full-Stack Framework for Long-Horizon Embodied Agents in Evolving Physical and Social Environments

Yicheng Xu, Zhikai Xu, Ziyuan Chen, Yuhang Dong et al.

Abstract摘要

Robots must act under physical and social constraints while adapting to changes in their environment and human needs. Existing embodied-agent systems often focus on specified goals or abstract execution into symbolic actions, limiting evaluation in an evolving world. We introduce TARSphere, a robot-oriented full-stack framework for physically and socially grounded long-horizon embodied agents. TARSphere-Infra runs robot policies in a physics simulator with embodied NPCs and constrained dialogue. An event-driven finite-state machine (FSM) uses completed actions and delivered information to …

DONIC: Generalist Dexterous Bimanual Tracking Control from Human Demonstrations

Mingze Sun, Ziang Cao, Yuan Fei, Qiankuan Tao et al.

Abstract摘要

Despite recent progress in dexterous reference tracking, existing models focus primarily on single-hand manipulation and a limited range of interactions, leaving the bimanual dexterous behaviors common in real life unaddressed. The scarcity of contact-rich bimanual manipulation data and the increased complexity of coordinating contacts make developing a generalist bimanual tracker particularly challenging. Therefore, we present 1) DONIC, the first generalist bimanual tracker jointly trained across operation categories and human-motion sources, together with 2) BiHOI, a multi-view dataset of …

Post-hoc Epistemic Uncertainty for Vision-Language-Action Policies

Johannes Keller, Albrecht M. Blo{\ss}e, Adrian Lindenmeyer, Thomas Neumuth et al.

Abstract摘要

Vision-language-action (VLA) policies need to recognize gaps in their training knowledge to request useful demonstrations or assistance in new situations, especially when failures are costly. Disagreement within an ensemble of independently trained policies can guide these decisions, but requires training and running multiple policies. We propose post-hoc kernel-variance heads that estimate epistemic uncertainty from the embeddings of a single policy. Each head computes the conditional variance of a Gaussian process conditioned on embeddings from the training demonstrations. Fitting requires …

Toward Recursive Self-Improvement in Physical AI

Meng Luo, Zechen Bai, Shanqing Xu, Yanlin Li et al.

Abstract摘要

Recursive self-improvement (RSI) describes a system that improves not only its behavior but also the process by which it improves. Recent digital agents test this idea by rewriting their own code and checking each version with executable tests. Bringing these mechanisms into the physical world requires learning from partial observations through costly trials, while accounting for changing operating conditions and potentially irreversible consequences. We position RSI within robot learning and trace pathways from improving robot capabilities to improving the processes that generate them. We …

DriveMLP: When Training Strategy Outperforms Model Complexity in Autonomous Driving

Alessandro Canevaro, Julian Schmidt, Hang Yu, Ye Jin et al.

Abstract摘要

Learning motion planning policies that remain reliable under closed-loop execution is a central challenge in Autonomous Driving (AD). Imitation Learning (IL) scales well to large AD datasets but suffers from distribution shift, causal confusion, and compounding errors under closed-loop execution. In contrast, Reinforcement Learning (RL) typically requires handcrafted rule-based rewards and massive simulation. We study a simple closed-loop IL framework that uses RL purely as an optimization tool, guided by a trajectory-distance reward derived from logged expert data. We refer to this training …

From VLM Planners to Robotic Agents: Self-Evolving Harnesses for History-Dependent Manipulation

Tingwen Du, Haoyu Guo, Hanxue Zhang, Xuanxu Wang et al.

Abstract摘要

Vision-language-action (VLA) models achieve strong performance across embodied manipulation tasks by unifying visual understanding, language conditioning, and action generation. However, long-horizon tasks can involve non-Markovian dependencies: successful decisions may require retaining task progress and past interaction outcomes, while partial observability and execution errors compound over time. Existing work has begun to address these challenges by augmenting foundation-model policies with memory and by introducing hierarchical architectures that separate high-level planning from …

AOV-GS: Active Open-Vocabulary Semantic Mapping with 3D Gaussian Splatting

Rodion Shkokov, Tatiana Zemskova, Dmitry Yudin

Abstract摘要

Robots deployed in human-centered environments need maps that support both geometric navigation and open-vocabulary semantic queries beyond a fixed label set. A key challenge is enriching such maps with semantic information without relying on manually annotated segmentation masks or closed-set semantic categories. Existing geometry-driven active mapping maximizes coverage but treats semantics as a passive by-product of the collected trajectory, whereas active semantic mapping typically depends on supervised semantic segmentation. We present AOV-GS, an active 3D Gaussian mapping system that …

Abstract摘要

The scarcity of high-quality annotated visual data remains a critical bottleneck for autonomous-driving perception. Simulators provide training data at scale, but the limited realism of synthetic videos compromises perception performance in real-world applications. To address this limitation, we propose NeuralSRender, a sim-to-real video translation framework that enhances the photorealism of synthetic videos while maintaining geometric consistency with the source scenes. Built on a pretrained video diffusion transformer (DiT), NeuralSRender uses a lightweight projector to inject geometric …

Scaling in Games: Continued Pre-Training For Embodied Agents In Diverse Virtual Worlds

Kuan Zhang, Yukun Chen, Zhihao Yang, Yue Su et al.

Abstract摘要

Scaling data, diversity and model capacity has improved embodied learning in physical environments, where diverse experiences remain grounded in shared physical laws. Whether these gains extend to virtual worlds with different visual styles, dynamics, controls, and objectives remains unclear. We investigate this question through a controlled study of continued pre-training (CPT) across three axes: data volume, diversity, and model size. Our 120 training configurations span four model sizes from 0.8B to 27B, six data budgets from 50 to 1,600 hours, and five mixtures ranging from Minecraft-only …

Abstract摘要

Recent world action models provide visual foresight and future prediction for robot manipulation, but lack explicit mechanisms for compositional skill reuse. Agentic robotics combines code-based planning and reasoning with reusable skills, but often lacks predictive grounding in physical dynamics. We introduce AW-0, an agentic world action model framework that integrates code-based planning with joint video and action prediction. We jointly model code, future video, and robot actions as three coupled generative streams within a unified mixture-of-transformers architecture. Within this …

PhysiCalWorld: In-Context Physics Calibration for World Models

Yunhao Luo, Wentao He, Yinpei Dai, Hyelin Nam et al.

Abstract摘要

Existing world models typically perceive a scene through current visual frame or a narrow history window. However, these observations may not reveal the physics properties that determine transition dynamics, such as an object's mass distribution, joint damping, or surface friction. Without calibrating these physics factors for world models, predictions tend to regress toward an empirical prior and induce severe drift in novel test scenes. To this end, we propose PhysiCalWorld, which calibrates action-conditioned world models to the instance-specific dynamics via in-context prompting, without …

CW-WAM: A Structured Contact-Wrench World Action Model for Force-Sensitive Manipulation

Houzhu Ding, Xinda Qi, Luqi Wang, Ming Yang

Abstract摘要

Force-sensitive manipulation requires contact and load information that is not provided explicitly by visual observations. We present CW-WAM, a world action model that jointly predicts video, motion, and contact wrench. Inspired by hybrid motion-force control, it contains a unified interaction module that treats both motion and contact wrench as modeling targets and predicts time-aligned motion-wrench chunks as control references. A pair-causal attention mechanism structures the motion-wrench dependencies, while a long fixed-length wrench memory retains past interaction information. The …

Asymmetric On-Policy Distillation Learns In-Context Exploration

Sriyash Poddar, Yanda Bao, Jacob Krantz, Matthew Chang et al.

Abstract摘要

Sequential decision-making under partial observability is difficult because agents must explore to infer hidden, task-relevant information before acting effectively. Learning such information-gathering behaviors tabula rasa via online reinforcement learning is sample-inefficient, whereas offline imitation averages expert actions across hidden states and fails to learn exploration. In this work, we propose ASTEROID, a simple and effective student--teacher supervised learning framework that can learn test-time exploration. Although a privileged expert never needs to explore, we demonstrate that …

Implementation of Dynamic Microsegmentation for a Multi-Robot Network

Vishwam Raval, Jaewon Kim, Ravi Pattabhi, Sandip Roy

Abstract摘要

This report describes a laboratory instantiation of a dynamic microsegmentation function for an Internet-of-Things network, specifically a multi-robot network, using a commercial software-defined microsegmentation tool. Fine-grained dynamic segmentation policies are defined, where segments are adapted based on asset functional and health tags. Automated implementation of the dynamic policies in software is also undertaken. The microsegmentation solution is shown to automatically isolate an indicated threat in real time, while maintaining unaffected operations. The demonstration indicates that …

AtomicRL: Atomic Reinforcement Learning for Long-Horizon Robotic Manipulation

Likui Zhang, Zhe Zhu, Zhihao Zhan, Yibo Bai et al.

Abstract摘要

Vision-language-action (VLA) models have shown promise in robotic manipulation, but imitation learning (IL) alone often struggles to master complex long-horizon skills. Reinforcement learning (RL) offers an effective avenue for further improving VLA policies. However, existing VLA-RL methods typically suffer from delayed and biased credit assignment due to trajectory-level sparse rewards, while imbalanced subtask mastery creates bottlenecks that limit overall performance. To address these challenges, we propose AtomicRL, an RL post-training framework that leverages atomic task structures for …

Do Earth-Trained Humanoid Controllers Walk on the Moon? Gravity, Terrain, and Soil Transfer

Guillem Casadesus Vila, Sri Aditya Deevi, Grace X. Gao

Abstract摘要

The Moon changes gravity, terrain, and soil at once. Learned locomotion has studied reduced gravity on rigid ground and granular terrain mostly at Earth gravity, but not humanoids under both, generalist-controller transfer, or the Earth cost of lunar adaptation. On a simulated Unitree G1, we train 12 policies with one recipe, varying gravity, terrain geometry, and ground contact (rigid or three-dimensional resistive force theory, 3D RFT), and including Earth-to-Moon fine-tuning and gravity randomization. We test them at both gravities on rigid ground and 3D RFT, and at their training gravity …

Test-Time Motion Steering for Perceptive Humanoid Fall Recovery

Osher Azulay, Cheng-Lin Hsieh, Stella X. Yu

Abstract摘要

Humanoid fall recovery requires selecting a motion that suits both the surrounding scene and the task. The same fallen pose can admit several ways to stand, with different routes, support transitions, and final headings. Yet reliable recovery alone does not provide control over which of these alternatives the robot executes. Steering this choice requires anticipating the physical consequences of a requested movement. We present RISE, an approach to perceptive humanoid recovery that lets task objectives steer how the robot returns to standing at inference time. It builds on two insights: …

SP-HLM: Sparse-Pose-Driven Motion Generation and Whole-Body Control for Humanoid Loco-Manipulation

Zhaohui Yang, Quanbao Lin, Chengqi Shi, Zhenglang Weng et al.

Abstract摘要

Humanoid loco-manipulation requires an effective interface between high-level task policies and whole-body control. Existing interfaces typically rely on a single action representation for both task intent and whole-body coordination. This may burden the high-level policy or leave one aspect underspecified. We present SP-HLM, a framework built on a sparse-pose-driven interface. The interface combines five task-critical body poses with a learned latent motion prior to represent spatial intent and whole-body coordination in complementary forms. Object- and Task-Aware Active Perception for Safe Navigation of Mobile Manipulators in Semi-Static Environments

Jingxing Qian, Xintong Du, Jun Yang, Siqi Zhou et al.

Abstract摘要

Mobile manipulators must navigate safely in cluttered, partially unknown environments across logistics, manufacturing, and service applications. Semi-static changes between robot visits can lead to outdated scene knowledge and increased collision risk. We propose an active perception framework that enables a high degree-of-freedom (DoF) mobile manipulator to inspect uncertain or safety-critical regions with its hand camera during navigation. A probabilistic, object- and task-aware next-best-view (NBV) formulation prioritizes observations near the desired path and around uncertain or …

Abstract摘要

Real-time whole-body humanoid teleoperation remains challenging due to the computational latency introduced by optimization-based retargeting pipelines and future-frame conditioning. Existing motion tracking policies typically require dense reference targets including full joint positions, body-part transformations, and even future frames, which tightly couples the controller to expensive upstream modules. In this work, we present HuMiT, a whole-body teleoperation system built on a unified tracking policy that requires only a compact reference target, consisting of root height, root velocity, …

GeoMem-VLA: Internalizing 3D Scene Understanding into Temporal Memory for Vision-Language-Action Models

Qinfan Zhang, Yifan Luo, Haoyuan Shi, Guanlin Liu et al.

Abstract摘要

Geometric structure is essential for robotic manipulation and understanding the 3D world. Most VLA models rely on 2D representations of current observations, while geometry-aware approaches often require additional 3D information. However, geometry inferred independently from individual observations is often discarded rather than accumulated into a persistent task representation. Our key insight is that action generation needs a compact, task-relevant geometric abstraction that can be continuously updated, rather than a complete, renderable 3D reconstruction at every step. We introduce …

Abstract摘要

Autonomous mobile robots operating in dense crowds and cluttered sites require $360^\circ$ perception to react to surrounding hazards. While panoramic LiDAR offers full-surround coverage, learning representations within reinforcement learning (RL) is sample-inefficient under sparse rewards, and existing 3D pretrained point-cloud encoders are too memory-heavy for massively parallel RL simulation. Spacetime Splines for Adaptive Robot Motions

Boxuan Zhang, Ante Mari\'c, Sylvain Calinon

Abstract摘要

Movement primitives commonly represent robot mo- tions through basis functions indexed by time or phase. Inspired by spacetime representations employed in physics, we propose a spline-based formulation in which spatial geometry and temporal progression are represented within a common set of continuous variables. The proposed method jointly estimates a shared Bezier curve, while allowing spatial and temporal model complexity to be adapted independently (e.g., demonstration-specific phase modulation). Robot Generalization Beyond Volume: The Diversity Path via Zero-Shot Capabilities

Rafael Felix

Abstract摘要

General-purpose robots must handle tasks, objects and environments they were never trained on, yet zero-shot generalization remains one of the least solved problems in physical AI. In digital AI, zero-shot capability grew with the volume and, above all, the diversity of training data, much of it sourced from the crowd. Robotics instead relies on paid collection by a few well-funded teams, which yields volume without diversity. We formulate zero-shot generalization in physical AI as coverage of the deployment distribution, and show that more samples from the same collectors shrink the unseen …

OMAR: Open-World Multi-Attribute Reasoning for Scene-Conditioned Shelf Organization

Benedikt Kreis, Rohit Menon, Benno Wingender, Muhammad Ehsan Ullah et al.

Abstract摘要

With the advent of foundation models, robots are increasingly capable of understanding and executing explicitly specified human tasks. Extending these capabilities to open-ended tasks, however, requires robots to infer appropriate actions from the observed scene. Household organization exemplifies this challenge, as robots must often act without detailed instructions, predefined object vocabularies, or known object-receptacle associations. While robots may follow instructions or learn organization preferences from demonstrations, inferring the latent organization of an occasionally changing …

Sufficient and Necessary Causal Explanations for the Analysis of Autonomous Systems

Tom Yaacov, Khen Elimelech, Hana Chockler, Moshe Y. Vardi

Abstract摘要

Understanding failures of autonomous systems is challenging, particularly when their behavior depends on black-box components such as neural networks. In this work, we make a distinction between two objectives of failure analysis: reproduction, which seeks to identify conditions sufficient to reproduce an observed failure, and avoidance, which seeks to identify the changes required to prevent it. Previous work on causal explanations of system failures is based on the concept of sufficient explanations and naturally supports reproduction. Nevertheless, we observe that it does not address the …

Reconstruction-Augmented Visuomotor Pre-Training of 3D-Grounded Bimanual Dexterity from RGB-Only Human Videos

Xingyi He, Zhiwen Qiu, Adhitya Polavaram, Yunhao Cao et al.

Abstract摘要

We present SpatialDex, a framework that learns 3D-grounded bimanual dexterity from RGB-only human videos through reconstruction-augmented visuomotor pre-training. The central idea is to learn human behavior together with its spatial context. From each video, we reconstruct the scene geometry and estimate the hand motion, align them at a shared video-level scale using the hand-size prior of 3D hand estimates. We retain the reconstructed geometry as both a policy input and a prediction target. The policy grounds the token grid of a pre-trained vision-language model in this geometry through …

CausGround: Causal Interaction Grounding for Adaptive Embodied Planning

Yijun Shen, Diqi He, Jinbang Guo, Wanyue Zhang et al.

Abstract摘要

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) show promising reasoning capabilities, but reliable physical interaction requires planning that accounts for when actions are executable and how they change the world. These preconditions and effects are environment-dependent and often not captured by MLLMs, making adaptation challenging. Yet existing approaches either require costly environment-specific training or rely on unstructured interaction experience that is difficult to reuse. Therefore, we introduce CausGround, a non-parametric causal interaction grounding framework that distills interaction …

Abstract摘要

Large-scale aerial resources provide a foundation for learning navigation across diverse environments. However, existing resources remain limited in providing (1) densely sampled flight demonstrations for learning different policy formulations and (2) broad environment coverage for standardized closed-loop evaluation. To address these limitations, we introduce AirPlayground, a unified benchmark for training and evaluating aerial navigation policies across diverse environments. We first construct 94 photorealistic 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) environments spanning indoor, urban outdoor, and …

FlowVLA: Learning Flow-Aware Physical Completion for Quantitative Robotic Pouring

Liwen Yang, Yutian Zhang, Jiaqi Zhai, Li Yang et al.

Abstract摘要

During steady pouring, images and robot pose may remain nearly unchanged while transferred mass accumulates, making the return decision ambiguous for a whole-task vision-language-action (VLA) policy. We present FlowVLA, which separates motor generation from physical-completion estimation. A shared $\pi_{0.5}$ action expert learns approach, pour, and return with boundary-aware supervision. A target-independent estimator fuses visual, joint, wrist-wrench, and recurrent force-belief histories to maintain an estimate of transferred mass. The controller initiates return when this estimate plus …

From Acceptance and Avoidance to Affective Viscosity: Designing Social Agents Intermediating in Human Relationships

Tomoko Yonezawa

Abstract摘要

As social agents become embedded in human relationships, they are expected not only to provide smooth assistance but also to handle rejection, discomfort, jealousy, persistence, and other forms of social tension. This paper connects two research directions: acceptance and avoidance in response to an agent's gaze, approach, and contact, and affective viscosity as a model of how negative affect accumulates, persists, is suppressed, and is expressed over time. We argue that avoidance should not be treated merely as a failure of interaction, but as a relational signal that indicates boundaries …

Reading the Room: Scale-ambiguous Semantic Registration of Sparse VSLAM Maps to Floor Plans in Partially Built Environments

Bjorn Stragier, Emilia Szyma\'nska, J. Micah Prendergast, Lukas Rosenberger Schmid

Abstract摘要

Many robotic construction applications, such as progress tracking, require registering a sensor trajectory to a prior 2D floor plan. Visual capture is attractive for its low cost and availability, but aligning a visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM) map to a floor plan is difficult; VSLAM recovers geometry only up to an unknown similarity transform, the sparse point cloud is cross-modal to the symbolic floor plan, sites are only partially built during capture, and construction sites are visually repetitive, degrading map quality while removing distinctive features. Existing …

From Association to Decision Value: Testing Paired Instruction Dependence for VLA Corpus Selection

Nurmukhambet Serikbayev, Abdul Basit, Muhammad Shafique

Abstract摘要

Choosing among robot demonstration corpora is a ranking problem: an upstream diagnostic must preserve which candidates produce better downstream policies, not merely correlate with average performance. We study paired instruction dependence, the rate at which a demonstrator changes its first decision when only the goal changes. Across 136 independently seeded quadruped-navigation corpora, predictions developed on 56 corpora are evaluated prospectively on 80 held-out corpora. The audit is reliable and associated with downstream paired correctness, and lowers mean absolute prediction error when …

Watch Your Step: Anticipated Perception for Humanoid Locomotion

Matthias Heyrman, Chenhao Li, Ioannis Dadiotis, Marco Hutter

Abstract摘要

Perceptive locomotion policies typically observe a dense robot-centric elevation map, although only the terrain beneath and around the next footsteps informs the control decision. Learned encoders compress the whole visual input, leaving the policy to work out which inputs matter while learning the baseline locomotion task. Learning both at once slows training and, without computationally expensive attention mechanisms, makes generalization to new terrain harder. We instead remove redundant inputs from the elevation map before the policy sees it. A lightweight foothold prediction model (FPM) …

End-to-End Reinforcement Learning for Quadrupedal Jumping in Lunar Gravity

Levin M\"uller, Oliver Fischer, Marco Trentini, Yusuke Tanaka et al.

Abstract摘要

Legged robots can extend planetary exploration to rugged and discontinuous terrain that is inaccessible to conventional rovers. In lunar gravity, jumping further expands this mobility by enabling robots to cross obstacles and gaps that cannot be traversed by walking alone. We present a multistage reinforcement-learning approach that produces a single end-to-end control policy for commanded point-to-point jumping under lunar gravity. The resulting policy has a simple architecture and relies exclusively on mission-compatible onboard sensing, making its deployment on a real lunar mission …

Joint-Angle Invariance of Jacobian-Based Performance Indices for Serial Robotic Manipulators

Yaohua Zhou, Mingdao Lin, Jiayu Song, Xixin Zhao et al.

Abstract摘要

This article investigates the joint-angle invariance (JAI) of Jacobian-based performance indices for serial robotic manipulators. We identify kinematic conditions under which representative performance indices, including manipulability, stiffness, and other Jacobian-derived indices, remain independent of the first and last joint angles. This property allows a systematic reduction in the effective configuration-space dimensionality, thereby simplifying the performance evaluation. The utility of JAI is demonstrated through two application scenarios: workspace performance map construction and …

Mixture of Flow Matching and Particle Filter for Proprioception-Based Online Contact Estimation

Seo Wook Han, Min Jun Kim

Abstract摘要

In this article, we propose ContactFlowFilter, a novel approach for contact estimation that determines the number of active contacts, their locations, and the associated force vectors. We consider a robot manipulator equipped with joint torque sensors and a base force/torque sensor; such a proprioceptive-only setup presents a challenging inverse problem characterized by (i) multi-modality from non-unique solutions, (ii) temporal dependencies in state evolution, and (iii) discrete contact events involving contact addition/removal. Existing approaches, such as particle filters (PFs) and …

Preserving Operator Intent Under Actuation Constraints: Teleoperation of Manipulators with Coupled Transmissions

Xuhan Miao, Zijin Han, Yutong Shen, Haidong Huang et al.

Abstract摘要

Teleoperation enables intuitive control of remote engineering robots for precision tasks. Existing direct joint-mapping methods have two limitations: independent motor saturation disrupts pitch-roll coordination in differential wrists, while fixed mappings struggle with abrupt tracking changes caused by gravitational loads and actuation constraints. We propose an actuator-constraint-aware leader-follower teleoperation method that jointly models leader gravity compensation, leader-follower joint mapping, and follower differential-wrist control. Specifically, we perform coordinated saturation …

Make it Walk: Computational Design of LEGO Walkers

Abstract摘要

LEGO walkers are walking automata constructed from modular LEGO Technic bricks. They exhibit intriguing locomotion and are also highly reconfigurable through the modular Technic bricks, making them widely applicable in education, recreation, and robotics research. However, existing LEGO walkers are designed mostly by reusing existing single-actuator walking mechanisms. Although the locomotion is stable, their fixed walking gaits limit their adaptability and versatility. This paper presents the first computational solution capable of designing LEGO walkers that not only walk stably, but also …

S-Rolling: Steerable Rolling Gaits for Twistable Snake Robots in Low-Clearance Environments

Qingling Fan, Zhongqiang Ren

Abstract摘要

Snake robots can traverse complex environments with limbless locomotion, but maneuvering in low-clearance environments remains challenging because a gait must maintain a small swept height while also providing planar steering. Existing rolling gaits preserve a low swept height body configuration but generally provide limited steering, whereas steering gaits often introduce vertical undulation and require additional clearance. With that in mind, this paper develops S-rolling, a steerable rolling gait that combines low swept height locomotion with planar maneuverability for twistable snake …

Linear Twisting Sidewinding Gaits for Twistable Snake Robot Motion Planning on Complex Terrains

Qingling Fan, Zhongqiang Ren

Abstract摘要

Sidewinding is an efficient gait for snake robots to locomote on various terrains, by undulating the backbone curve and shifting the contact segments along it. However, relying solely on undulatory motion limits the locomotive capability of snake robots, and combining it with twisting motion can improve their speed and robustness. This hypothesis has recently been verified by the rolling vector approach, which locomotes the robot like a differential-drive car. Yet its twisting is concentrated in a short buffer segment, imposing most of the workload on the two twist joints in the middle, which …

A2I-Calib++: A Kinematics-Driven Anti-noise Active Calibration Framework for Whole-Body Multi-IMU Systems on Legged Robots

Abstract摘要

Recently, multi-node inertial measurement unit (multi-IMU) systems have shown promise for robust odometry in legged robots. Multi-IMU fusion can improve legged robot odometry but requires accurate spatiotemporal calibration among the sensors. Existing multi-IMU calibration methods, designed for aerial or handheld platforms, face challenges on legged robots because routine locomotion may provide insufficient excitation, while foot slips, impacts, and vibrations introduce measurement disturbances. To address these challenges, we propose A2I-Calib++, a kinematics-driven anti-noise active …

Abstract摘要

Real-world physical sensing exhibits complex, heterogeneous noise patterns that deviate significantly from idealized simulation, posing a fundamental bottleneck for sim-to-real transfer. Existing sensor modelings typically treat depth noise as a monolithic black-box process, overlooking the distinct physical mechanisms that govern different error modalities. In this work, we introduce a physics-grounded paradigm that disentangles monolithic noise into two complementary modalities: \textbf{sensing invalidation} and \textbf{measurement inaccuracy}, enabling a tailored treatment of noise sources …

Abstract摘要

Industries employ robots for repetitive tasks due to their high precision and performance, typically achieved through feedforward control actions based on an accurate robot description. However, an exact dynamic model can be difficult to obtain, especially for robots with elastic elements or when the payload changes. Learning-based feedforward approaches are promising for trajectory tracking under model uncertainties, but typically face generalization issues when task parameters vary. Running them onboard calls for low-bit compression, and flight use adds requirements that generic post-training quantization leaves implicit: a fixed memory budget and storage format, a static artifact under configuration control, and behavior close to the full-precision model validated on the ground. We treat compression as a ground-segment step and study QSelect, which composes one static low-bit model from compatible AWQ, GPTQ, and AutoRound …

Relational Geometry Forcing for World Action Models

Yuan Xu, Yixiang Chen, Qisen Ma, Jiabing Yang et al.

Abstract摘要

World Action Models (WAMs) have shown strong potential for robot manipulation by jointly learning visual dynamics and executable actions. However, their video and action objectives do not explicitly constrain the 3D geometry that is crucial for precise manipulation. Recently, geometry-aware WAMs introduce depth or 4D prediction branches, whereas representation alignment methods supervise intermediate WAM features with pretrained 3D foundation models. Yet we find that such pointwise alignment benefits the video features but degrades action learning, since dense geometric feature targets overly …

Training in Deployment: Human-in-the-loop Online Post-Training for Robot Manipulation

Chun Gu, Xiaofei Wei, Yiming Chen, Bozhou Zhang et al.

Abstract摘要

Large pretrained robot foundation models provide strong priors for manipulation, yet adapting them to target tasks with offline teleoperated demonstrations often fails to cover the contact-rich, recovery, and precision-critical states encountered during deployment. Existing methods mitigate this issue by augmenting offline demonstrations with human-in-the-loop data or online reinforcement learning. Despite this, offline post-training adapts slowly because it cannot immediately absorb deployment experience, while online RL typically relies on value functions or auxiliary actor-critic models, …

DepState-JEPA: Learning Depth-Grounded State Representation for Visual Perception and Manipulation

Xiujian Liang, Liuyuan Na, Zehao Du, Jiacheng Xu et al.

Abstract摘要

Predictive representations for robot manipulation should connect scene geometry with the state changes induced by actions. Our intuition is that understanding what an action will change starts with understanding where things are: complementary RGB and depth observations ground a common scene representation from which to infer those changes. Guided by this intuition, we introduce \textbf{DepState-JEPA}, a dual-stream RGB--Depth joint-embedding predictive architecture that connects spatial understanding with action-conditioned prediction through a shared latent state, \textbf{DepState}. Built …

Failure Modes of Vision-Language Models for Human Activity Understanding in Thermal HRI

Han Hu, He Chen

Abstract摘要

Thermal cameras enable robots to perceive human activities in darkness while revealing less personally identifiable appearance information and fewer details of the surrounding environment than RGB cameras. As vision-language models (VLMs), originally developed for RGB imagery, are increasingly integrated into embodied systems for scene understanding and high-level planning, thermal sensing offers a promising way to extend activity perception to low-light and privacy-sensitive settings. However, the failure modes of VLMs in thermal human activity understanding for human-robot interaction (HRI) …

NavBind: Diagnosing Instruction-Action Binding at Route Forks in Navigation VLAs

Josh Qixuan Sun, Xiaoying Xing, Yurun Chen, Huaiyuan Weng et al.

Abstract摘要

Vision-language-action (VLA) navigation models translate visual observations and instructions into actions. Navigation success assesses whether an agent reaches the goal. However, reaching the goal successfully does not establish whether the model genuinely follows the instructions or relies on visual cues or navigation history. We introduce NavBind to diagnose instruction-action binding: whether changing the instruction influences the probabilistic distribution of the actions, with the navigation context fixed. We construct 3,252 route-fork contexts by recombining route-aligned instruction …

SMR: Learning streaming motion retargeting for humanoids from human semantic

Chun Gu, Juntong Zhang, Jingyu Li, Li Zhang

Abstract摘要

Retargeting human motion to humanoids requires preserving motion semantics while accounting for the robot's physical constraints. Kinematic pipelines prescribe a robot trajectory through geometric matching, without establishing whether it can be executed under the robot's dynamics. Prior physics-supervised neural methods train bidirectional full-sequence models on physics-refined kinematic trajectories, remaining tied to prescribed kinematic solutions and requiring noncausal context. We propose SMR, a streaming neural motion retargeter learned from semantic-conditioned physics experts. We …

How Representational Priors Shape Generalization in World Action Models

Junha Chun, Youngjoon Jeong, Taesup Kim

Abstract摘要

World action models (WAMs) are shown to substantially diverge under generalization performance based on their generative backbones. We investigate this gap through the representational geometry that WAMs inherit from their backbones and how policy training reorganizes it. Our central hypothesis is that a useful representational prior would structure geometry that separates nuisance information from the in-distribution manifold in advance of training as a policy. We quantify this with nuisance orthogonality; orthogonality of the feature under visual variation outside the empirical …

Abstract摘要

Human-in-the-loop (HIL) post-training improves vision-language-action (VLA) policies through expert corrections, but costly human supervision and repeated real-robot evaluation limit algorithm exploration and development. We introduce SimPT (Simulation-based Post-Training), a simulation framework that automates intervention-based VLA post-training by integrating policy rollouts, corrective data collection, policy training, and standalone evaluation. To automatically determine intervention timing and recovery strategies, we develop an Agent-Compiled Progress Graph that tracks task progress …

State-Dependent Objective Coordination for End-to-End Balance and Navigation

Xuhao Huang, Xitao Xu, Yuxin Zheng, Yunfan Ren et al.

Abstract摘要

Traditional robotic navigation systems separate mapping, planning, and low-level control through cascaded modules, introducing computational overhead and accumulated latency. End-to-end reinforcement learning offers a compact unified policy that maps onboard observations directly to control actions. However, on inherently unstable platforms such as two-wheeled inverted-pendulum robots, navigation progress and obstacle avoidance can conflict with attitude stabilization in a strongly state-dependent manner. We propose a lightweight state-dependent objective coordination method for integrated …

Learning to Absorb Corrections: Critic-Weighted Residual Flow for Vision-Based Insertion

Yiqing Yuan, Zhi Li, Jinrong Yang, Mingshan Sun et al.

Abstract摘要

Vision-based insertion requires correcting alignment errors while retaining useful behavior learned from demonstrations. We present ACT--Flow, an online learning framework that couples an adaptive Action Chunking Transformer (ACT) with a conditional residual flow policy. Following anchor-guided warmup, ACT absorbs successful executed actions through behavioral cloning, while residual targets are recomputed relative to the updated prior. A chunk-level critic learns from successful and failed interactions and evaluates final composed actions. Its estimates weight generated residual candidates …

Causal world models under physical parameter shifts

Chu Lin, Yi Sun

Abstract摘要

World models predict how embodied systems evolve under actions, but their accuracy can degrade when physical conditions move outside the training distribution. We study two components of causal modeling: which inputs a predictor may use, and how its mechanism computes their effects. In a synthetic benchmark with shortcut features, a frozen dependency mask derived from paired interventions reduces mean out-of-distribution (OOD) RMSE from 1.769 for a fully connected predictor to 0.697, close to the generator-oracle mask (0.694). For robot link-mass extrapolation in CausalWorld, with disjoint …

Abstract摘要

Currently, dexterous humanoid robot hands are widely considered the final hardware bottleneck that hampers generalist robots from physically assisting people at home and work. As conventional tendon-driven designs suffer from high cost, demanding maintenance, poor reliability, and short durability, alternative linkage-driven designs have increasingly gained attention. Despite their potential to avoid the weaknesses of tendon-driven hands, integrating multiple degrees of actuation (DOA) in a single digit with linkage drivetrains is a challenge for design and fabrication. Only a few studies …

Abstract摘要

Accurate 6-DoF object pose tracking is essential for robotic interaction, yet conventional monocular pipelines frequently suffer from catastrophic divergence under rapid object motion. We present RoPT, a robust tracking framework engineered to overcome this limitation by unifying visual perception, temporal kinematics, and global re-localization into a tightly coupled closed loop. Unlike existing open-loop trackers, RoPT delivers three critical capabilities that fundamentally alter system resilience. First, the visual perception component tracks object masks to robustly handle partial and …

SLoSa: Small, Low-Power, and Safe Foundation Models for Robotic Task Planning

Weizhe Xu, Jialiang Fan, Essien Taylor, Zijun Wang et al.

Abstract摘要

Safe robotic task planning requires planners that can reliably achieve task goals while satisfying safety constraints. Classical planners search over explicit symbolic task representations and can provide formal guarantees with respect to encoded safety constraints, but require rigid input formats. Their computational cost also increases rapidly with the search space. In contrast, large language models (LLMs) offer flexible task interfaces and strong generalization capabilities, but they are large, power-hungry, and pre-trained with little robot-specific safety data and knowledge. Thus, they …

GGraph: A GPU-Accelerated Library for Graph-Based Robot Deployment and Learning

Yash Rampuria, Rohan Garg, Daniele Gammelli, Marco Pavone

Abstract摘要

Autonomous mobile robots require spatial representations that capture geometry and semantics while staying sparse enough for planning in large, unknown environments. Graphs provide a natural representation for this purpose and underpin both classical planning methods and a growing class of reinforcement-learning (RL) policies. However, RL training needs hundreds to thousands of parallel environments, each constructing and updating its own graph. Existing graph libraries are typically designed for either single-robot deployment or fixed graphs, and CPU-based graph construction limits scalable …

One Policy, Many Styles: Where to Aggregate Preferences for Steerable Humanoid Control?

Ziqian Huang, Yuzhuo Chen, Shimin Zhang, Junyang He et al.

Abstract摘要

Modern robotic agents are increasingly expected to support steerable control, where a single policy can adjust its behavioral style at runtime under changing user preferences. Preference-conditioned reinforcement learning provides this interface, but conditioning alone does not ensure that a requested behavior change is strong, does not leak into unrelated behaviors, and does not compromise task performance. Our evaluation combines Preference Reward Responsiveness (PRR) with coverage and utility metrics. We use these measures to compare reward-level, advantage-level, loss-level, and …

Learning Dynamic Games for Cooperative Iterative Tasks

Mark Pustilnik, Francesco Borrelli

Abstract摘要

We consider cooperative and iterative tasks involving multiple agents whose interactions are modeled as a dynamic game with shared constraints. We propose a general learning framework applicable to nonlinear and nonconvex dynamic games that uses previously executed feasible trajectories to construct a sampled joint safe set and player-specific cost-to-go functions. At each time step, the agents jointly select a previously sampled terminal state and a Generalized Nash equilibrium used to reach it. A new solution is adopted only if it satisfies a cooperative acceptance rule agreed upon by the …

Flexible Language-Guided Representation Editing for Adaptive Robot Behavior

Audrey Lee, Nathaniel Dennler, Ilia Sucholutsky, Andreea Bobu

Abstract摘要

Trajectory demonstrations show robots how to behave but not why, leaving them to guess which features of the task actually matter. Incorrect guesses produce misaligned internal representations and lead to incorrect robot behaviors. Because task features are often semantically defined, we argue that natural language is better suited for specifying features rather than relying on demonstrations. Although existing representation editing methods have proposed using language to specify new features, only allowing additive edits produces feature sets that are often over-specified or too narrowly …

inr2action: Encoding Robot Episodes as Neural Implicit Representations for Recall and Action

Leann Alhashishi, Christos Margadji, Sebastian William Pattinson

Abstract摘要

Long-horizon robotic operation requires memory that scales with essential information rather than execution time. We present a parameter-space memory framework where each episode is stored as a separable object. A neural implicit representation is fitted to episode video from a shared, meta-learned initialization; the resulting weight delta constitutes the memory. Crucially, this delta remains a fixed size regardless of whether the episode spans a hundred or a hundred thousand frames. A learned projector maps the weight delta into token embeddings, conditioning a language model for question …

Real2Sem2Real: 3D Semantic Augmentations for Robot Learning from a Single Human RGB Demonstration

Abstract摘要

Human video scales easily and does not need robot hardware, but existing methods require depth sensing, overlay the robot onto 2D video, or generate data only for the demonstrated objects. We present Real2Sem2Real (R2Sem2R), a real-to-semantic-to-real pipeline that turns one monocular RGB video of a human demonstration into thousands of robot demonstrations across the semantic object instances of a category. R2Sem2R tracks the SE(3) pose of each object with DINOv3-distilled Gaussian splats, outperforming existing methods and FoundationPose with estimated metric depth. R2Sem2R then aligns …

T-WLA: Bridging Slow Vision and Fast Touch

Abstract摘要

In contact-rich manipulation, contact conditions can change before a visual policy updates its action plan. Recomputing the plan through the visual policy adds latency, while tactile feedback alone does not specify how the ongoing motion should be revised for the task. We introduce T-WLA, a world-language-action architecture that uses shared visual memory to guide both action generation and tactile correction. At each visual update, the visual branch integrates the current image, task instruction, and retrieved history into a visual memory that conditions base-action generation. The same …

VeriCalib: Verifiable Target-Based LiDAR-Camera Calibration

Xiangcheng Hu, Xieyuanli Chen, Feiyi Chen, Shengli Ren et al.

Abstract摘要

Target-based extrinsic calibration estimates the rigid transform between sensors from a few observations of a known target, and its result is commonly assessed by the root-mean-square error of the fitted residuals. However, this scalar error is computed on the same observations and therefore cannot indicate whether to accept the result, re-extract, recollect or add observations. This paper presents VeriCalib, which formulates extrinsic calibration as a verifiable estimation problem and reports a calibration state. The key insight is a two-level extrinsic compensation mechanism, in which the …

Abstract摘要

This paper presents a novel framework integrating a robust wrench observer with a hybrid pose and force controller for physical Human-Robot Interaction (pHRI). In pHRI tasks, robots are expected to perform task-space motions robustly while remaining compliance with human disturbance, which proposes distinct control objectives. Most existing approaches focus mainly on either robustness or compliance and rely on force sensors for real-time tracking. To address these limitations, we propose a novel framework with the following key contributions. Firstly, a neural network (NN) is trained to …

Human-Robot Interaction via Meta-Learning Based Mode Recognition and Adaptive Control

Nuo Chen, Ya-Jun Pan

Abstract摘要

In human-robot interaction (HRI) tasks, humans may interact with the robot in either an active guiding or passive following state, resulting in distinct control objectives for each interaction mode. Most existing approaches rely on predefined switching thresholds to distinguish interaction modes, but their performance can be sensitive to measurement noise. To address this limitation, we propose a novel framework with the following key contributions. First, a neural network (NN) trained via meta-learning is developed to recognize human intention without manually defined thresholds. By …

Warping the Workspace: Expanding Visual Access with Adjustable Reach Mapping for Humanoid Teleoperation

Keigo Minamida, Koya Dendo, Yuto Nakamura, Jun Rekimoto

Abstract摘要

First-person humanoid teleoperation ties access to side and rear targets to operator rotation. We present coupled visual--motor remapping, pairing a panoramic azimuth warp with its inverse upper-limb yaw transform. A working prototype implements Global Zoom (GZ) and Focus+Context (F+C). In a within-subject study (N=8); 72 trials), GZ had the largest completion count (23/24; Fixed: 20/24; F+C: 21/24), whereas F+C was preferred by 6/8 participants. Therefore, completion and preference favored different mappings in this sample.

Real-Time Ground Normal Vector Estimation for Spherical Mobile 3D Mapping using LiDAR-Inertial Odometry

Tim Schubert, Fabian Arzberger, Andreas N\"uchter

Abstract摘要

Accurate ground plane normal estimation is essential for odometry in spherical mobile mapping systems (SMMS), which face challenges from rapid rotations and limited ground coverage. We propose two RANSAC-based approaches: single-scan estimation with normal vector scoring and multi-step validation, and LiDAR-inertial odometry (LIO)-based estimation using a global 3D map. Evaluated across diverse real-world datasets against terrestrial laser scanner ground truth, results show that LIO-based estimation significantly outperforms single-scan methods in accuracy and robustness. Integrating ground …

Reinforcement learning for hardware acceleration and system-level optimization on FPGA and integrated-circuit platforms: A survey

Hamza Kheddar

Abstract摘要

Reinforcement learning (RL) enables adaptive and autonomous decision-making in embedded, edge, and heterogeneous computing systems. Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and integrated circuits (ICs) offer low latency, energy efficiency, and architectural flexibility for RL deployment, while introducing challenges in resource constraints, implementation complexity, and hardware-algorithm co-design. This review surveys more than 100 studies on RL implementations across FPGA and IC platforms, emphasizing architectures, implementation strategies, performance evaluation, and applications. The …

PCLA-Bridge: A Framework for Cross-Domain Deployment of CARLA Agents

Masoud Jamshidiyan Tehrani, Jinhan Kim, Paolo Tonella

Abstract摘要

Most high-performing end-to-end autonomous driving agents (ADAs) are developed for the CARLA Leaderboard, tightly coupling them to CARLA's APIs, sensor layouts, coordinate systems, and internal clock. Reusing these models on real datasets, alternative simulators, or physical platforms necessitates substantial manual re-engineering. We present PCLA-Bridge, a deployable tool that runs unmodified CARLA Leaderboard agents from any sensor source to any control destination without an active CARLA server. With PCLA-Bridge handling dependency isolation, tensor marshalling, routing, and synthetic …
